Window

Always on top: Enable to show ClipClip on top of all other windows.
Minimize to taskbar

Clear latest clips: Remove all the latest clips.
Save latest clips: Save all latest clips as files.
Force clips update: Manually update the grid if new clips are not detected.

Options

Enable the clipboard monitor
Enable instant copy: Automatically minimize the manager when copying a clip.
Enable instant paste: Automatically paste the selected clip from the Paste Menu

Actions

The action menu appears when a hotkey is pressed. It will provide easy access to actions for frequently used operations based on the type of latest clip. The action applies to the active selection (if applicable), or the latest clip if nothing has been selected.

Action options

Hold SHIFT when selecting an action to avoid any prompts to change the default or last used settings.

Any clip type

Auto-delete clip:
After [x] seconds - Useful for sensitive content or passwords
Text field (numeric): The clip will be deleted after the time runs out.
After pasting - Delete the clip once it has been used (pasted).

Plain text, RTF, or HTML clips

Convert:

Base64 encode - Apply Base64 encoding.
Base64 decode - Apply Base64 decoding.
MD5 hash (lowercase) - Calculate the MD5 hash.
MD5 hash (UPPERCASE) - Calculate the MD5 hash and convert to uppercase.
URL encode - Apply URL encoding.
URL decode - Apply URL decoding.
HTML encode - Apply HTML encoding to all non-alphanumeric characters.
HTML decode - Apply HTML decoding.
Markdown to HTML - Convert Markdown text to HTML.
Random - Generate a random 8-character string using your clip as a seed.
Checkbox: Include uppercase letters.
Checkbox: Include numbers.
Checkbox & Text field: Include these special characters [!@#$%^&*]

Apply capitalization:

UPPERCASE - Converts all characters to uppercase.

Introduction

ClipClip is a Windows desktop application. Its main purpose is to expand the functionality of the clipboard to increase your productivity. ClipClip achieves this with its built-in features and by providing developers a platform to create Actions that provide limitless flexibility.

In the future, we plan to have a fully cross-platform application for Windows, Mac OS, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS. Browser extensions are planned for Chrome, Opera, and Firefox.

Clips

Anything that can be copied to the clipboard can be considered a clip. Clips can consist of plain text, formatted text, image data, or a reference to a file.

Clips are very versatile. They can consist of just a few characters or an entire Wikipedia article. This makes it possible to use them for any purpose.

You can store a phone number or hyperlink, write notes with text and images, save code snippets for easy access, or frequently used templates to share with your co-workers.

Clips are stored as files. You can use your existing cloud storage providers, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. As such, they are automatically shared with co-workers who have access to those folders.

Types of clips

To understand how ClipClip works with different types of clips, it’s important to make a distinction based on the underlying files.

Temporary Clips (a.k.a latest clips)

Temporary clips are created when you copy something to your clipboard. These clips are stored locally in a hidden folder and are encrypted for your privacy. They cannot be accessed directly using File Explorer or equivalent file manager applications.

Saved Clips

These clips are stored locally on your hard drive. A very important attribute is that these are regular files. As such, users can create or edit saved clips using any compatible third-party editor.

Cloud Clips

These clips are links to files hosted in the cloud, which may need to be synchronized.

The Paste Menu provides an easy way to access your Latest Clips, Saved Clips, and Context-Sensitive Clips without having to access the Manager window. By default, the assigned hotkey is Ctrl + Alt + V, however, this may be changed in the settings.

When the Paste Menu is loaded, you’ll notice that one of the clips is selected and highlighted. By default, ClipClip will select the last clip you copied if copying was your last action or the clip below the last one you’ve pasted if pasting was your last action. This makes it easier to paste clips sequentially, one after the other, without having to remember their positions.

There are a few options to paste something other than the clip’s contents or to apply some action to it: “Hold CTRL to paste as a file, SHIFT for plain text format, or ALT for the title.”
